Principal Accountability
Directs financial activities of an organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff members.
Executive Specific Expectations
  • Manages and directs assigned departments towards their primary objectives.
  • Establishes current and long-range objectives, plans and policies, subject to the approval of the President/CEO.
  • Dispenses advice, guidance, direction and authorization to carry out plans and procedures, consistent with established policies and President/CEO approval.
  • Reviews operating results of the assigned departments, compares them to established objectives, and takes steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
Major Responsibilities 
  • Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities
  • Maintains investment files
  • Responsible for overseeing all General Ledger activities, including journal entries, general and subsidiary ledger reconciliation's.
  • Prepares reports for monthly Governing Board Meetings
  • Arranges for audits of hospital's accounting, and coordinates these activities
  • Oversees Central Storage activities and responsibilities.
  • Develops and installs procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow.
  • Establishes operating policies consistent with the Hospital Broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution.
  • Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
  • Completes the month end closing and issues monthly reports in a timely manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises employees in Central Storage, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (B. A.) from four-year college or university.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' accounting experience in healthcare.
  • Must possess extensive computer hardware and software training and education, Meditech experience a plus.
  • Performing payroll functions and accounts functions required.
  • CPA preferred, but not required. 
Skills and Knowledge 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Effective decision-making skills, analyze situations and data, identify alternatives and apply judgment in reaching decisions that are balanced, logical and effective.
