DIRECTOR OF LABORATORY
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Laboratory at Freestone Medical Center reports to the CEO and manages all laboratory in-house and contractual services including financial and technical aspects. Management includes waived testing organization wide. The Director will supervise the Medical Technologists, Medical Technicians and Phlebotomists. Occasional travel may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

•      Conduct and administer fiscal operations, including accounting, planning budgets and recommending expenditures.

•        Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of Medical Technologists, Medical Technicians and Phlebotomists.

•        Maintain communication between medical staff and department heads by attending meetings and coordinating interdepartmental functioning.

•        Direct or conduct recruitment, hiring and training of personnel.

•        Establish work schedules and assignments for staff according to workload.

•        Maintain awareness of advances in medicine, computerized diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing technology, government regulations, health insurance changes and financing options.

•        Establish objectives and evaluative operational criteria for units they manage.

•        Prepare activity reports to inform management of the status and implementation plans of programs, services and quality initiatives.

•        Inspect facilities and recommend building or equipment modifications to ensure emergency readiness and compliance to access, safety and sanitation regulations.

•        Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures for the laboratory.

•        Manage change in integrated health care delivery systems, such as work restructuring, technological innovations and shifts in the focus of care.

•        Consult with medical, business, and community groups to discuss service problems, respond to community needs, enhance public relations, coordinate activities and plans and promote health programs.

•        Develop instructional materials and conduct in-service and community-based educational programs.

•        Develop or expand and implement medical programs or health services that promote community health.

•        Evaluates and implements technological advances in laboratory medicine to provide state of the art analytical testing.

•        Implements, reviews and evaluates quality control systems to ensure accuracy of patient analyses.

•        Implements, reviews and evaluates proficiency testing to validate analyte accuracy and precision.

•        Implements, reviews and evaluates equipment maintenance to ensure timely, clinically significant analyses.

•        Reviews abnormal patient results to ensure accurate results and appropriate patient follow-up.

SKILLS & ABILITIES



•         Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Science



•         5 years required. Experience in all general laboratory specialties preferred.



•         Computer Skills: Basic - Microsoft Office training/experience preferred. E-mail experience preferred



•         Certifications & Licenses: Other Requirements: Registration as MT, Registration by HEW
