Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer


Principal Accountability

The EVP/COO assumes the corporate lead for operations for all owned, leased and managed hospitals. This role provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that all hospitals have the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures and people systems in place to effectively grow the hospital and to ensure financial stability and operating efficiency. The position accomplishes this through a respectful constructive and energetic style reflective of the organizational values, and guided by the strategic initiatives.

The EVP/COO participates in business development activities, including potential client meetings/calls and assists in the development and presentation of proposals for consulting and management services to hospitals.

Direct reports within the corporate office include: Clinical Services, Quality, Regulatory and Care Management, Information Technology, Post- Acute Services,  and regional operations.


Education

Bachelor's degree and Masters in Health Care Administration or Business or a related business field required.


Experience

Proven experience as hospital CEO (minimum 10 years)

Multi-hospital leadership experience strongly preferred. 

Rural hospital experience desirable.

  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to corporate mission and values
  • Possess a high degree of political savvy
  • Ability to travel up to 70% of the time
  • Current driver's license and good driving record

Major Responsibilities 

  • Work with hospital leadership to design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth of all hospitals
  • Participate in the due diligence of new corporate activities
  • Manage the transition of new hospitals into the organization
  • Foster a success oriented, accountable environment within the organization
  • Represent the organization with clients and business partners
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and conduct.
  • Develops and maintains a working relationship with members of the administrative teams, Boards and other healthcare agencies.

General Duties

  • Regular interaction with corporate staff regarding consulting and management services
  • Regular interaction with 'Circle of Influence'

 Physical/Mental Stress Factors 

  • Ability to drive at least 3 uninterrupted hours
  • Ability to travel via plane
  • Physical mobility to travel significantly, approximately 50-60% of time
  • Exposure to latex products
  • Mental stress due to high volume of workload and tight deadlines.
