Senior Planning Analyst


Principal Accountability

The Senior Planning Analyst will assist the VP of Planning and EVP of Community Hospital Consulting in the analysis and interpretation of hospital data and healthcare trends.

The incumbent will: 

  • Provide research and analysis of inpatient, physician and non-acute aspects of the healthcare marketplace.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases providing analysis and interpretation of the data to include market and demographic assessments and various ad hoc analyses for various owned, managed, consulting and business development clients.
  • Extensively utilize Microsoft Excel, Truven Health's Market Expert and The Advisory Board's Crimson Market Advantage in daily operations. The analyses will be utilized in corporate and hospital planning and strategy development.
  • Provide assistance in conducting medical staff development plans including analyzing physician supply, conducting physician interviews and creating reports.
  • In addition, will also provide research, analysis and report creation on health status data, demographics, conducting one-on-one community interviews and other necessary information to conduct Community Health Needs Assessments.
  • Demonstrate excellent analytic, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Education

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, statistics, healthcare administration or related field of study; master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of three years of market data analysis experience in a healthcare setting.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Access, PowerPoint and MapPoint, and other database tools for research and analysis
  • Must have experience with extensive spreadsheet manipulation, pivot tables, use of vlookup, Microsoft Excel formulas
  • Experience with Truven Health Market Expert and Crimson Market Advantage preferred (or similar tools)
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Experience with various state hospital association databases to extract market data for comparative analysis
  • Ability to translate complex data into usable reports and/or charts, graphs and written reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to listen, communicate and relate well with multiple audiences both in person and on the phone
  • Communicates openly, professionally, respectfully, and in timely way
  • Shares information appropriately
  • Keeps others well informed
  • Responds in a timely manner to messages/requests
  • Emails written with proper etiquette, not using all-capital letters, basic proper grammar, and spelling checked
  • Must have exposure to market research methodology and statistics
  • Significant experience presenting data and reports to healthcare executives

  • Must be a team player with ability to self-motivate, organize own work, juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines and produce accurate and timely analyses
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness during change and to adapt to change with a positive attitude 

Experience

  • Requires minimum of three years of data analysis, planning or market analysis experience in a healthcare setting or an appropriate combination of education and experience. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Analyze market data, demographics and other information to support analytical requests of internal and external clients.
  • Including but not limited to use of pivot tables, vlookup, various formulas in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to learn and extract information from various state databases
  • Utilize Truven Health's Market Expert and various other sources for state data, demographics and projections
  • Prepare and design spreadsheets, graphics and maps for presentations using Microsoft Office products.
  • Create graphical data representations using mapping software such as MapPoint.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to create reports from state comparative databases.
  • Conduct research to identify health statistics and disease related information to identify issues and trends.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research including one-on-one telephone or in person interviews and analysis of findings.
  • Participate in survey design, data collection and analysis for various internal and external projects using SurveyMonkey or similar program.
  • Analyze client data to identify issues and trends.
  • Assist in analysis of physician recruiting needs including data manipulation, one-on-one physician interviews and report generation.
  • Assist in development of written reports and make oral presentations of analytic results to clients as needed.
  • Keep internal and external customers informed on progress of projects.
  • Obtains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Goals 

  • Provides support as necessary to CHC hospitals and consulting clients along with providing support for internal CHC staff
  • Complete research and analysis accurately and timely as needed.
  • Utilize all available resources to most effectively and efficiently complete projects.
  • Work collaboratively with CHC colleagues, managed hospital personnel, and engaged clients.



General Duties

  • Upholds and supports the company's mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

  • Ability to drive at least 3 uninterrupted hours
  • Ability to travel via plane
  • Physical mobility to travel significantly, approximately 10-20% of time.
  • Mental stress due to high volume of workload and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to meet CHC's Drug and Tobacco-Free requirements
